Nearly two years after being fired from the Napa Valley's Charles Krug-Mondavi winery, the 24 employees have been reinstated to their jobs with back-pay. In addition to back-pay, under the new contract the workers will receive an 18 percent pay increase over the four-year contract and the workers will have the same seniority and classifications they did at the time they were discharged. NFWM Congratulates the workers, the UFW & each of you who suported this campaign!Together we make a difference for farm workers!
BACKGROUND: In June, 2006,United Farm Workers (UFW) members at Charles Krug-Mondavi called for a nationwide boycott of their company's products -- Charles Krug, C.K. Mondavi and CR Cellars wine labels . In July Krug-Mondavi fired its union workers and turned over operations to a land manager as a cost-savings measure. At the same time the winery is spending $21.6 million for capital improvements on their Napa Valley vineyards.
Krug-Mondavi has resisted union representation for their workers since the first UFW election at the company in 1975: They took 6 years to agree to the first union contract in 1981. They took 9 years to negotiate a contract from 1991 - 2000. Now Krug-Mondavi is vowing to fire all its vineyard workers, many of whom have years of loyal service, rather than renew their union contract.

As 29-year veteran Krug Mondavi worker Aurelio Solorio says, "The company simply wants to do away with our union that has represented us and fought for our benefits. The company wants to implement a younger work force that will carry lower wages, no benefits, and will hold a lesser amount of knowledge of their labor rights."
