NATIONAL COUNCIL OF CHURCHES ENDORSES TACO BELL & MT. OLIVE BOYCOTTS! November, 2003

FLOC VICTORY: MT. OLIVE PICKLES REMOVED FROM FARMER JACK STORES! December, 2003!
UFCW Local 911 in Toledo, OH, which represents Farmer Jack workers, was instrumental in the decision.
According a spokesperson for Farmer Jack Supermarkets the chain will no longer buy Mt. Olive products from its distributor, affecting over 100 of their stores in Ohio and Michigan.

US CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS SUPPORT FARMWORKER LEGALIZATION BILL November, 2003
On behalf of the U.S. Catholic bishops, at their annual meeting in Washington, D.C., November 12, 2003, Bishop Wilton Gregory urged the U.S. Congress to enact the Agricultural Job Opportunity, Benefits, and Security Act of 2003 (S. 1645, HR 3142) prior to adjournment for the year. They also urged President Bush actively to support and sign the legislation.
The bishops also released and excellent statement on food, farmers and farmworkers in the U.S. "For I Was Hungry And You Gave Me Food."

TWO MORE NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS HAVE ENDORSED THE TACO BELL BOYCOTT!
On October 28, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) delegates at the General Assembly in North Carolina voted to support the boycott campaign.
That same week the national American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) also formally endorsed the boycott!
Together, the two endorsements add hundreds of thousands of new voices across the country to the call for "not just fast, but FAIR, food!"

CATHOLIC BISHOPS OF FLORIDA NAME NOVEMBER 9, 2003 FARMWORKER JUSTICE SUNDAY
This is the 1st time the Catholic Bishops of Florida have set aside a Sunday to "recognize the human dignity of their brothers and sisters in the fields and to consider their own moral obligations to work for justice in labor and living conditions" before celebrating Thanksgiving Day.
The National Farm Worker Ministry has invited congregations from Protestant, Jewish and other traditions to dedicate their weekend services to this observance.

NEW FARM WORKER BOOK: IMMOKALEE'S FIELDS OF HOPE, BY CARLENE THISSEN
Using mostly their own words, the book presents the stories of immigrant farm workers who live in Immokalee, FL. The author became involved when she volunteered to teach music to children there.
